Description

The Heart & Crown ByWard has been in operation since April 1992. It opened with a 50 seat restaurant and a 30 seat patio. 5 years later in 1997, the company doubled in size when the Snug Pub opened attached to the Heart & Crown.

In 2001, the company quadrupled in size when the Mother McGintey’s and Black Rose pubs were added and connected to the other 2 pubs.

The Irish Village now stretches a city block in the Historic ByWard Market in the heart of Canada’s greatest city, Ottawa.

Now, the Heart and Crown ByWard consists of 4 pubs under 1 roof with 5 patio’s that catch the sun at all times of day; there is no bad seat!

Good for pitchers, but charges cover

It was a busy pub with live music and relatively inexpensive beer. A popular location for a younger crowd.

After spending five hours taking in the Museum of Civilization, my friend, my son and I decided we would head near the shops in Ottawa, have a bite to eat and do some shopping.

The Heart & Crown is in an area filled with pubs, but we noticed that most of the patrons of this one were eating. We thought it was a good sign, so we went in.

We were not disappointed by either the food or the service. I had some of the best Irish stew I've ever tasted, and my son's kid-sized chicken fingers were large and tender, and filled him up for further adventure. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the food came promptly.

I like pub food and atmosphere much more than family style restaurants for lunches, and this one definitely one I would return to on my next visit to Ottawa.

Fun Irish Pub in the Byward Market

The Heart and Crown is a great pub and it is connected to several other pubs and bars in what is known as the Irish Village in downtown Ottawa (located in the market). There is often live bands playing on Friday and saturday. Just be prepared that if you go out at night on a weekend, it is guaranteed to be busy!
